SR22 Insurance Requirements in Alaska
SR22 insurance policies are typically issued to driver’s that have had their driver license suspended or revoked for a variety of reasons. Often times the court will require proof of SR22 insurance before having their driver license reinstated. Depending on the offense, a driver may need to carry SR22 insurance for a period of 3 years following the reinstatement of a previously suspended or revoked driver license.
In the State of Alaska, DWI and Refusal convictions, a driver must maintain a SR22 insurance policy for 5 years from the ending date on the first offense, 10 years on the second and 20 years from the end date of the third offense.
An SR22 insurance policy requires the insurance company to notify the DMV if the policy is cancelled terminated or lapses for any reason. SR22 insurance may be obtained even if you do not own an automobile through a non-owner SR22 insurance policy.
