A driver in the State of Georgia may be required to file an SR22 form for a number of different reasons. The main purpose for an SR22 certificate is to prove financial responsibility in the form of certified liability insurance. Georgia Auto Insurance

The State of Georgia requires that all vehicle owners maintain continuous Georgia liability insurance coverage on their vehicles. You must have proof of this insurance when you register a vehicle and receive a Georgia license plate tag.

If a person does not maintain continous Georgia liability insurance on their vehicle the Georgia Department of Revenue is required to revoke the registration on the vehicle.
